After a truly fantastic show at in-cosmetics Asia 2015, Belinda Carli, Director of the Institute of Personal Care Sciences (IPCS) gives her top 10 favourite innovations that were on show…
Innovation #1: Elixiance Biofunctional (Ashland)
A true multi-functional active, this extract from the Peruvian pink pepper tree is rich in phytoantioxidants for pollution-shielding benefits, purifying effect with oil control, pore refining and age-perfecting for less visible wrinkles and smoothness for younger-looking skin. Skin protection that refines, purifies and reduces visible ageing! This material also won the Silver Active at the in-cosmetics Asia Innovation Zone Awards.
Innovation #2: Exo-P (Lucas Meyer Cosmetics)
Winner of the Gold Active at the in-cosmetics Asia Innovation Zone Awards, this material is an exopolysaccharide that forms a biomimetic shield on the surface of the skin to protect against free radical activity, hydrocarbons and heavy metals and avoids PM2.5 adhesion. The result is more luminous and healthy looking skin within 7 days!
Innovation #3: SWT-7 (Lucas Meyer Cosmetics)
This exciting active was influenced by the latest discoveries in reconstructive tissue engineering for burn injuries treatment. Utilising stem cell technology and cell-to-cell communication, it stimulates keratinocyte synthesis to provide visible anti-aging results even in thin skin within 7 days!
Innovation #4: Brightenyl (Induchem AG)
Activated by a newly identified layer of the human skin, the stratum microbium, this material acts on 7 biological targets of skin pigmentation and colour regulation including UV and hyperpigmented spots and skin redness to yield amazing results within 28-84 days: up to 18 fold reduction of UV spots, -150% reduction of skin darkness, -600% reduction of skin redness and a 16 fold improvement of skin brightness.
Innovation #5: ProRenew Complex CLR (CLR Chem)
Obtained from Lactococcus lactis, this material acts on the essential features in the ageing process of the skin, enabling it to adapt to external stresses quickly and effectively. This active thereby positively influences the speed and quality of epidermal growth, increasing production of essential proteins and enzymes, barrier function and accelerated skin renewal.
Innovation #6: Skinperf LWG (Codif R&N)
This green biomaterial forms a lamellar gel which behaves like an intra-cutaneous reservoir of AHA. It is able to diffuse AHAs in a progressive and controlled manner while avoiding inflammation so you get the visible benefits of AHAs without the irritation. Exfoliation performance is equivalent to AHA within 2 weeks. After 4 weeks, the skin is brighter, pigmentary spots, blackheads and acne scars disappear – all without any stinging sensation.
Innovation #7: Uplevity Peptide (Lipotec)
This peptide active works to increase the collagen and elastin synthesis in the skin to improve skin firmness and counteract visible sagging and ageing effects on the skin. Results show up to 25.2% improvements to skin firmness, 16% increase in elasticity and a visible lifting effect of facial contours.
Innovation #8: Lecigel (Lucas Meyer Cosmetics)
Winner of the Gold Functional Award at in-cosmetics Asia 2015 Innovation Zone, it’s all about the way it feels with this phospholipid rich functional material. Testing has shown moments of pleasure on application of products containing this material – get some in your products today and give consumers that WOW-feel factor!
Innovation #9: Varisoft EQ100 (Evonik Industries AG)
A novel high performance conditioning agent with an improved sustainability profile, this functional material displays excellent hair conditioning, ready biodegradability and can be used in various hair care applications for great results – it was also the winner of the Silver Functional Award at in-cosmetics Asia 2015 Innovation Zone.
Innovation #10: Flashtone Unispheres (Induchem AG)
A new generation of high definition instant skin colour correcting beads, these materials contain a unique encapsulation technology with skin colour neutralising pigments in their core. Upon application they provide instant high definition skin tone correction in 3 shades: green to reduce redness, purple to correct a yellowish complexion and yellow/orange to give instant vibrancy!
