Beauty brands gear up for next wave of innovation at in-cosmetics Korea

The organisers behind in-cosmetics Korea have revealed 33 more reasons to attend the country’s only personal care ingredients event. Already renowned for showcasing the most innovative products from around the world, this year’s edition will feature at least 33 new suppliers when it returns to the Coex Convention and Exhibition Centre in Seoul – the beauty capital of the world – this June.

When it comes to innovation, technology and effectiveness, Korean beauty is the undisputed world leader. The country is home to thousands of beauty brands, with the leading players launching between 20-30 new products every month. R&D is at the heart of its success – AmorePacific spends more than US$100m per year on R&D alone – and beauty technology from Korea is estimated to be 12-14 years ahead of the US.

Domestically, demand for unique, new beauty products has never been higher, while Korean brands are also increasingly influencing the way women and men around the world care for their skin. According to Euromonitor International, the Korean beauty industry will be worth more than US$13bn by 2020, but its pre-eminence relies on innovation and that is what makes this year’s in-cosmetics Korea so important to the region’s manufacturers.

New suppliers in find in 2018

The event is well on track to attract a record number of exhibitors in 2018, providing NPD teams with the premier setting to source the most exciting new ingredients. Around 50% of those already confirmed originate from outside of Korea, making it an invaluable networking opportunity for the personal care ingredients community operating within the dynamic Korean market. Additionally, 20% of the suppliers attending this year’s show will be niche brands you may never have heard of.

Of the 33 new suppliers joining the event this year, 14 are based in South Korea, with the remaining businesses travelling from China, Europe, India and the US. Among the companies not to be missed are:

  • Lonza (US), one of the world’s leading suppliers, that develops and manufactures innovative active pharmaceutical ingredients for the pharma and consumer health and nutrition industries.
  • Bee Venom Lab LLC (Georgia), which harvests bee venom from Caucasian bees in an environment free from any pollution. The ingredient can be used in a variety of formulations to provide skin care benefits.
  • Coskin Specialities (India) – a manufacturer and distributor of chemicals with products catering to speciality cosmetics and UV Filters.
  • ECOCERT GREENLIFE (France) which has become the benchmark for organic certification worldwide. It will highlight how Korean manufacturers can adhere to international organic and natural cosmetic certification rules.
  • MICHANG (South Korea) – one of the leading petrochemical businesses in Asia whose cosmetic grade white mineral oil products can deliver multiple benefits to beauty brands.

Who’ll be returning

Following the success of last year’s event, many of the industry’s major players will be attending the 2018 show.

In addition to the 33 new suppliers, visitors to this year’s event will be able to identify the latest products from AB Speciality Silicones, Akzonobel, Ashland, BITOP, Cosphatec, DSM Nutritional Products Asia Pacific, Givaudan Active Beauty, Lipoid Kosmetik AG, Lonza, Lucas Meyer Cosmetics, Mibelle AG Biochemistry, SEPPIC, SILAB and Sun Chemical Performance Pigments.

Speaking about the 2017 show, Sooryun Tak, Senior Researcher at LG Household which recently launched a haircare brand, enthused: “I was really inspired by the range of non-silicone solutions available from suppliers at the show. It’s really good to have a personal care ingredients event like in-cosmetics Korea in our country.”
